Key Responsibilities:
– Loading and Unloading: Safely load and unload freight from trucks, containers, and other transport vehicles.
– Material Handling: Move freight to and from storage areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, and other equipment using hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
– Sorting and Stacking: Sort freight according to destination and stack goods in the appropriate areas.
– Documentation: Verify incoming and outgoing shipments against documentation, ensure accurate records, and report any discrepancies.
– Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
– Equipment Maintenance: Inspect and maintain material handling equipment, report any malfunctions, and ensure equipment is in good working condition.
– Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records and participate in regular inventory counts.
– Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping, disposing of waste, and organizing materials.
– Team Collaboration: Work closely with other warehouse staff and departments to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Qualifications:
– Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
– Experience: Previous experience in a warehouse or freight handling environment is preferred but not required.
– Skills:
– Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
– Basic math skills for verifying shipments and documentation.
– Attention to detail and accuracy in handling freight.
– Good communication and teamwork skills.
– Ability to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks (certification may be required).
Physical Requirements:
– Ability to lift, move, and stack heavy objects.
– Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
– Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions depending on the warehouse environment.
Work Environment:
– Fast-paced warehouse environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts and varying temperatures.
– Potential exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery.
