Carpenter (Furniture)

Key Responsibilities:

– Design Interpretation: Read and interpret furniture designs, blueprints, and specifications to understand project requirements.

– Material Selection: Choose appropriate wood and other materials based on design specifications and quality standards.

– Woodworking: Use hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery to cut, shape, and assemble furniture components.

– Joinery: Perform various types of joinery, such as mortise and tenon joints, dovetails, and finger joints, to ensure structural integrity.

– Finishing: Apply stains, varnishes, and other finishes to enhance the appearance and durability of furniture pieces.

– Assembly: Assemble furniture components, including fittings, hardware, and upholstery, to complete finished products.

– Repair and Restoration: Repair damaged furniture pieces and perform restoration work to maintain or enhance their original condition.

– Quality Control: Inspect finished furniture items to ensure they meet quality standards and client specifications.

– Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

– Documentation: Maintain records of materials used, time spent on projects, and production schedules.

 Qualifications:

– Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Formal training in carpentry or woodworking is preferred.

– Experience: Minimum of 3 years years of experience as a furniture carpenter or in a related woodworking role.

– Skills:

  – Proficiency in woodworking techniques, tools, and machinery.

  – Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

  – Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.

  – Creativity and the ability to bring designs to life.

  – Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  – Physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).

 Physical Requirements:

– Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods.

– Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to wood dust and finishing chemicals.

– Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).

 Work Environment:

– Woodworking workshop environment with exposure to woodworking machinery, tools, and materials.

– Use of protective gear, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
